My name is Jorge Choperena, and I founded MERKAN LLC (formerly CF Trade Consultants) because I believed there was a better way to provide international logistics services...one that is personal, accountable, and built on long-term relationships.

For more than 20 years, I have worked in international freight forwarding, project cargo, and global sourcing, specializing in heavy machinery, construction equipment, air compressors, industrial parts, and oversized shipments. Over time, our clients have trusted us with a wide variety of cargo, and today we also support industries including textiles, fine art, and specialized commercial goods.

I started the company in Barranquilla, Colombia, and today we operate between Miami and Latin America, serving clients throughout the region. My background in logistics and airport services has shaped the way we approach logistics: with attention to detail, careful planning, and a commitment to solving problems before they become delays.

Our Story

MERKAN is intentionally a small, boutique company. When you call us, you are speaking directly with me, my assistant John, or a member of our team...not a call center or an automated system. Every shipment is personally monitored, and we provide regular updates throughout the process because we understand that our clients are often moving valuable equipment, critical parts, or time-sensitive cargo.

After more than a decade building MERKAN, what continues to motivate us is simple: we enjoy helping our clients succeed. We take pride in being available when they need us, delivering on our commitments, and building relationships that last for years...not just one shipment.
